Wayland Middle School is an American public middle school located in Wayland, Massachusetts. The current principal is Betsy Gavron, the assistant principal is Karen Brennan and the administrative assistant is Edie Bracken.
For many years the Middle School had been located in Wayland Center in what is now the Wayland Town Building. By 1969, school officials became concerned with the building's deteriorating condition and started planning for a new building. Originally, plans called for demolishing the existing Junior High and building a new structure over its footprint. However, the Wayland town administration needed to expand from its current quarters and occupied the old school building. As a result, a new site was selected on Route 27 by Cochituate Village. Construction began on the new school in 1971 and was completed in the fall of 1972. The building is a large rectangle, with classroom spaces concentrated on one end and all other functions at the opposite end with a gymnasium anchor. The school originally housed 7th and 8th grade until about 1980 when the 6th grade was moved from Wayland's three elementary schools. The building received minor renovation in the early 1990s.
There are many clubs, including Math Team, Orchestra, a Juggling Club, Gay-straight alliance, 6th Grade Chorus, 7th and 8th Grade Chorus, Select Chorus, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Stage Band. Extramural activities include Science Olympiad, the National Geographic Bee, and Le Grand Concours AATF National French Contest.
